It’s been very long that the fashion industry has been ruled by size zero which is way too contrary from the reality of general mass. The motive behind every runway is to bring fashion to every possible customer but is often restricted by size availability. Fashion seeks no size and is for all. But the stereotype still prevails that only a skinny body can be treated as a model.
Lakme Fashion Week 2016 broke down the stereotype with a very innovative move. The ramp was rocked by very enthusiast and confident Plus Size Models who were eagerly awaiting to grab this golden opportunity. Though they were not professionals but the way in which they pulled off themselves is commendable.
Despite all the excitement of this initiative move, the show became questionable from the point of view of fashion. Though the move was revolutionary but the clothes, styling and presentation failed to amaze. The outfits were body hugging and did not succeed in giving comfortable vibes. I fail to understand why a Plus Size person is supposed to be shown as “plus size” only. Is it different from any other being? The day we stop to categorise body types, it will be a remark in history. Give them the right outfit and they will rule the ramp.
Altogether it’s a great step in Indian Fashion Industry and has opened doors for upcoming talents. Women, today, have become confident about their size and skin but still lack in finding a channel to say it to the world. Lakme Fashion Week gave a platform to all these women across the country and restored their faith in Plus Size Fashion.
